Acco Research: Publishing academic research with Acco

Acco is an educational and scientific publisher, founded in 1960 in the university city of Leuven. As a cooperative society, we aim to disseminate scientific knowledge in the best possible way for science, education and lifelong learning. We have offices in Belgium and the Netherlands and produce books and digital products for the national and international market. The publishing division Acco Research focuses on the academic publishing market, in both open and free access formats.

Acco Research actively supports academics from universities and colleges in publishing their scientific research. It offers various services (academic services including peer reviews) and publishing formulas for this purpose, both in digital (Open Access or Free Access) and printed form.

Academic services

Acco Research’s services include the organisation and coordination of double-blind peer reviews (either in collaboration with the relevant editorial board or independently), administrative processing of GPRC files, language editing (native speaker), design and layout into digital and print-ready files (cover and interior), printing (POD), distribution (digital and physical) and communication.

Acco Research conduct a double-blind peer review procedure for its academic publications in the open access formula (see infra), in accordance with the requirements of the GPRC standard.

Digital products

Open Access

Digital publication (with Print On Demand), including peer review, distribution, DOI and Creative Commons Licence. Open Access greatly increases the visibility and impact (citations, references, follow-up research) of scientific research results.

Thanks to Acco Research’s Open Access formula, a scientific research publication is immediately digitally and freely accessible worldwide to everyone inside and outside the academic community from the day of publication, without an embargo period. Acco Research offers a paid printed version (POD) of each Open Access publication via its own webshop.

Authors can choose between the following open access licences: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0), Creative Commons Attribution No Derivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-ND 4.0, Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial No Derivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)

The digital Open Access publications at Acco Research are financed by a third party (Open Access Diamond) or via Book Processing Charges via the author (Open Access Gold). Quotation on request.

Free Access

Free digital publication with a paid printed version, but without prior peer review. Both the digital and printed versions are available via the Acco webshop (and possibly third parties).

Free Access is financed by a third party (usually the research institution) after a customised quote.

Printed products

For the financing of all academic products and services, a customised quotation is made based on cost price and market. For information or (price) questions, please email acco.research@acco.be.

With peer review and GPRC label

Academic research can also be published as a traditional printed book, with prior peer review and GPRC label.

Without prior peer review

Scientific research can be published as a traditional printed book, a positioning or conference paper, without prior peer review (with or without internal peer review).

Digital product als printed version

Any digital product (see above) can be given a printed version if desired.

Doctoral service

Acco Print & Productions is the market leader in Flanders for publishing/printing doctoral theses. Using the automated online tool www.doctoratenservice.be, doctoral students from all Flemish universities can print and publish their doctoral theses in a high-quality manner, with or without additional guidance from Acco staff.
